Highlights:
This project was for the Former Home of Al Hirschfeld (1903 – 2003), 20th century master of caricature.
The existing window configurations were not historically accurate. Over the years, previous owners had inserted replacement windows inside the original window frames. When measuring, we had to differentiate between what was replaced, what was original, and into where the new windows and door needed to be set.
It was extremely important to replicate the original window sight lines, glass configurations, and grid patterns in order to comply with Landmark requirements. WindowFix also sourced a product design that complied with the NYC ECC code. This was a full gut renovation by Cardinal Construction, and we had a strict project schedule for coordinating the installation sequence of the windows and doors for the front and rear of the building.
WindowFix resolved a lot of the measuring issues by spending time on-site prior to ordering. We worked closely with Kolbe Window and Door, translating accurate field conditions to the factory fabrication floor. At the time of installation, we allocated a proficient crew that moved quickly and effectively, working closely with the GC to tie together all the interior finish details.
